# Getting started with video hosting

> Gcore Video Hosting stores, transcodes, and delivers video-on-demand content as adaptive HLS, MPEG-DASH, and MP4 renditions.

Gcore Video Hosting stores, transcodes, and delivers video-on-demand content. Upload a source file once — Gcore generates adaptive renditions in HLS, MPEG-DASH, and MP4, and delivers them from 210+ CDN edge locations.

## VOD player demo

The player below runs a sample VOD hosted and delivered by Gcore infrastructure.

More VOD demos — including a 4K multi-codec example with H.264, HEVC, AV1, and VP9 — are on the [Demo](/streaming/getting-started/demo#vod-demos) page.

## Publish a video

To publish a video:

1. [Upload the video](/streaming/video-hosting/upload-a-video-and-embed-it-to-your-app) from a local file, a remote URL, or a Google Drive account. Gcore transcodes the source automatically — adaptive renditions at SD, HD, Full HD, 2K, and 4K are packaged as HLS MPEG-TS, HLS CMAF, MPEG-DASH CMAF, and MP4.
2. The [VOD status](/streaming/video-hosting/vod-status) page shows transcoding progress — renditions become available as each quality level completes.
3. Embed the hosted player using the iframe code, or use the HLS or MPEG-DASH manifest URL in a custom player.

For large libraries, [multi-codec VOD](/streaming/video-hosting/multi-codec) reduces CDN traffic at comparable visual quality.
